Autism HWB Article Brief

Writing a post

Once we have agreed a post (use the contact form to have a chat with us) please email your writing together with a bio and photograph.

Posts should be between 400 and 800 words long.

Consider the following in your post: (1) what is the strategy that you are writing about? (2) what are the health and/or wellbeing benefits of this strategy to you? (3) what happens to your health and/or wellbeing if you are unable to use your strategy? (4) how do you fit your strategy into your life? (5) How did you learn about or develop your strategy? (You do not need to include answers to all of these.)

Your bio should be under 50 words long and can include links to your social media and/or website.

Please include a photograph. Ideally it will be of you, but it could be of something that relates to your article instead.

If you have asked for us to edit your post for you we will email it to you to proofread. If we have not heard back from you within two weeks we will assume that you are happy for us to publish it in its current form.

Being interviewed for a post

Once we have agreed an interview (use the contact form to have a chat with us) please email a bio and photo in advance of the interview.

We will base the interview around the following questions: (1) what is the strategy that you are writing about? (2) what are the health and/or wellbeing benefits of this strategy to you? (3) what happens to your health and/or wellbeing if you are unable to use your strategy? (4) how do you fit your strategy into your life? (5) How did you learn about or develop your strategy?

Once we have transcribed the interview and edited it into a 400-800 word article, we will email it to you to proofread. If we have not heard back from you within two weeks we will assume that you are happy for us to publish it in its current form.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’d like to write a post, what would you like me to write about?

We would like you to write a post about a health or wellbeing strategy that you have learned about or developed for yourself. If you would like some ideas, you might find the following posts helpful: individual health practices, creativity and stimming & individual environments.

When is the deadline for my post?

There is no deadline. Once your article has been sent to us, and any necessary edits are made, we will prepare it for publishing on this site. We usually publish within a week unless we are very busy or have several posts ready to publish.

Can I write about a therapy that somebody else treats me with?

Autism HWB posts are around strategies that the author has researched and/or developed for themselves rather than their experiences of therapies that are delivered or guided by someone else. This site celebrates how we learn and practice strategies for ourselves.

Do I still own the post that I wrote?

Yes of course. It is your writing and you own it.

If you wish to publish your post elsewhere we would be really grateful if you could include a link to this site, but you do not need to.

If you want us to remove a post from this site that you have written you can contact us.

I am not autistic. Can I still write for you?

No sorry, Autism HWB is a platform celebrating autistic authorship.
